Which eFoil fits you?

As a rule we recommend Aerofoils. That is not a fixed answer but a reasoned one: Aerofoils is a German manufacturer with a central warehouse in Germany, developed for European waters — inland lakes and rivers, the Baltic, the North Sea and the Mediterranean. That is exactly where our customers ride. We deviate from it if you want to ride waves or specifically want a Lift Foils.

Which eFoil fits my weight?

Up to 90 kilos we recommend the Aerofoils Performance, above 90 kilos the Performance with the Aeroloop or alternatively the Adventure, above 100 kilos the Adventure with the Aeroloop. Above 120 kilos there is no board that fits — then please talk to us directly. What counts is the weight of the heaviest rider, unless you are buying the board primarily for yourself. Count in a wet wetsuit and safety gear, that is another 5 kg on top.

Why the Competition row comes before the Performance row: The Competition needs both — low weight and a sporting background. A light rider who is out to enjoy the ride therefore gets the Performance, not the most demanding board.

What is the Aeroloop for?

The Aerofoils Aeroloop adds 60 litres of volume. It is a starting aid — like training wheels on a bicycle: it helps you through the beginning, and the goal is that you take it off at some point. That is why we only recommend it above 90 kg. It does not raise the 120 kg limit: the tested value applies to the board, not to the accessory.

When do we deviate from Aerofoils?

In four cases: if you want to ride waves, if you come from kiting or windsurfing and want it properly sporty, if you feel unsure, and if you are thinking about Fliteboard. Behind that lies a difference in origin: Lift Foils and Fliteboard develop and ride on the ocean, Aerofoils on lakes, rivers, the Mediterranean, the Baltic and the North Sea. For most customers in Europe those are the waters that count — real waves are mainly found in Portugal and on the French coast. In every other case we stay with Aerofoils.

• You want to ride waves — then the Lift Foils LIFTX. Lift develops on the ocean in Puerto Rico and aims at sportier riders. No Lift board carries more than 100 kg; above that please talk to us directly.
• You come from kiting or windsurfing and want to ride properly sporty — then the Lift Foils LIFT5, medium or small size. We do not recommend the large size: there an Aerofoils Performance or Adventure is the better board. The LIFTX is something else — smaller battery, smaller motor, built for wave riding and for eFoil racing.
• You feel unsure — then we also show you the Aerofoils HyperFly. It has 230 litres of volume, more than double any other board. Lots of volume means buoyancy and with it stability when standing. It does not replace the recommendation, it stands alongside it.
• You are thinking about Fliteboard — we no longer carry it and recommend Lift Foils instead. We used to be an official Fliteboard dealer; since the takeover by the Brunswick Corporation in September 2023 we no longer sell it, and our experience with support has been poor since then. Nobody does more marketing than Fliteboard — but the best marketing does not mean the best board. What speaks for Lift Foils is the quick-release system, which saves minutes when assembling and taking apart. Otherwise both manufacturers have similar models that also ride similarly.

What if your water is shallow?

Then a jetboard is the better choice. An eFoil needs at least 1.20 m of water, otherwise the wing touches down. But a jetboard does not work without any depth either: below 60 cm sand and small stones get into the impeller.

Why does E-SURFER mostly recommend Aerofoils?

Because of three things you can check: the 80 cm carbon mast, the central warehouse in Germany and the jet drive that Aerofoils brought to market in 2022 as the first brand for an eFoil. On top of that comes the simplest reason: we ride them ourselves. The whole Lakeberg family rides Aerofoils, Andreas Lakeberg the Performance. It is still not a fixed recommendation — we deviate from it as soon as there is a factual reason.

• 80 cm carbon mast — the longer the mast, the deeper the wing sits in the water. That runs more calmly in choppy water and allows steeper turns. On Aerofoils the jet sits right at the bottom at wing height; if the drive sits on the mast, that is where the usable length ends. Does not apply to the HyperFly — it has a 60 cm ABS mast.
• Spare parts — German manufacturer with a central warehouse in Germany. Lift Foils is based in Puerto Rico, Fliteboard in Australia.
• Jet drive — in 2022 Aerofoils was the first brand to bring a jet drive for an eFoil to market.

On a boat or in a camper

If you store and charge your board on a boat or in a camper, we recommend a fireproof battery box. Lithium batteries in tight spaces are a serious safety matter — on board or in a vehicle there is nowhere to push a burning battery. Prices are gross prices including 19 % German VAT, in the configuration we recommend. In the recommended configuration all eFoils are around 16,000 euros. The Aerofoils Aeroloop costs €599.

eFoil or jetboard — which fits better?

In the end it is like skiing or snowboarding — a matter of taste. One person wants to hover above the water, the other needs contact with it. Before you decide by feel, though, you should know the hard differences.

• Law — eFoils need no licence. On inland waters jetboards often count as personal watercraft and are regulated like jet skis, sometimes requiring a licence. The rules differ from country to country. As of 28 July 2026. This is not legal advice — the details are in our legal guide.
• Water depth — an eFoil needs at least 1.20 m. A jetboard gets by with considerably less, but it should not drop below 60 cm there either: otherwise sand and small stones get into the impeller and can damage it badly.
• Weight — eFoils weigh 31 to 33 kg ready to ride including the battery, electric jetboards around 50 kg.
• Speed — jetboards ride up to 60 km/h. An eFoil reaches 45 km/h, at cruising speed it is 25 to 30. With race wings up to 50 km/h is possible.
• mo-jet halves the biggest drawback — two batteries and two chargers, which means around one hour of charging instead of two and a half.
• Build quality — the Awake RÄVIK are the design pieces among jetboards: full carbon, cleanly finished down to the detail. The mo-jet goes for something else and is above all extremely tough.

Which jetboard fits you?

As a rule we recommend mo-jet. That is not a fixed answer but a reasoned one: mo-jet is a German manufacturer we have a very good relationship with, the board is extremely tough, and with two batteries and two chargers it charges in about an hour instead of two and a half. Above all, though, it is much easier to ride than an Awake or a JETSURF.

When do we recommend an Awake instead of a mo-jet?

When three things come together: you want to ride sporty, you come from watersports — surfing, kitesurfing, wakeboarding or windsurfing — and you have ridden a motorised board before. If one of those is missing, it stays with the mo-jet Surf. Wanting it “sporty” alone is not enough for us: the RÄVIK are more demanding to ride, and anyone stepping on without prior experience gets less out of them.

Where JETSURF stands: If we recommend an Awake to you, we name the JETSURF Electric 2 as an alternative alongside it — but only up to 100 kg, because according to the manufacturer it carries no more. It comes from the racing scene, rides up to 55 km/h and charges in three hours instead of one.

What is the difference between mo-jet Surf and mo-jet Body?

The mo-jet Surf is the stand-up jetboard, the mo-jet Body the bodyboard you lie on. The drive is the same on both — only the module attached to it differs. That is why you can ride both styles with a single drive: if you have the Surf, the Body module turns it into a bodyboard. If you have the Body, the Surf module turns it into a stand-up jetboard. The swap takes seconds.

For rental and charter that is the strongest argument there is: one guest lies down, the next stands up — and there is still only one drive in the storeroom. That is why we recommend the second module with every mo-jet recommendation.

Jetboards range between 14,800 and 19,500 euros. Important about the handle on the JETSURF Electric 2 Ski: It is not a starting aid. When you take off you first have to guide it past you, which makes getting going harder. The advantage lies elsewhere — the board rides more aggressively with it.

On a boat or in a camper

For rental and charter

Combined with the Surf module, a single drive covers both riding styles: one guest rides lying down, the next standing up. No second drive in the storeroom. On the eFoil side the Aerofoils HyperFly is the right choice.
